Give Yourself Some Grace. You're Allowed to Step Back and Take a Break.
Sometimes we're overcommitted, and we can overlook things. That's fine! Give yourself the grace to say "I just couldn't" ... Like I am, today.
I'll be honest with you; I forgot about this newsletter this week.
Over the past five weeks I have:
5: Kicked off and closed out 3 big projects in 1 week.
4: Prepped the house for a homie to temporarily move in.
3: My girlfriend, Becca, participated in a huge mural festival.
2: My family was in town for the week for my sisters wedding.
1: I participated in and painted in Crush Walls, a week-long mural event.
0: I'm currently 4hrs into a 16hr drive to LA.
To do all of this while also trying to maintain health, friendships, and a personal life...all of this amidst a global pandemic, continued issues of social and racial injustice, and polarizing politics. Whew. My birthday is tomorrow and you better believe I'll be standing knee deep in ocean water drinking a beer and staring at the horizon.
We woke up at 4:30am this morning, and we're currently on the road somewhere just east of Moab, UT. This long drive comes after an exhausting 5 weeks, and we're embarking on the journey to get Becca settled into her temporarily move to LA for an amazing job opportunity.
I didn't realize how badly I needed a break, and I'm really looking forward to running around in the sand and taking a few days to catch up on some projects, and enjoy some R&R. I felt guilty when I realized that I hadn't written and sent this out this morning. But, sometimes, we need a break. And that's okay.
Give yourself the grace to stumble, to step back, to learn and to breath. Society will tell you that you always need to "hustle" and to "grind." And, sometimes I agree, that can be great. However, sometimes what we need most is to step back, refresh, do something a bit different or new, and then dive back in with a refreshed and replenished mind and body.
Forgive any typos — I'm so tired and not re-reading this. Sleepy hugs to yall!
